Manchester Airport – Wayfinding Upgrade

✈️ Helping passengers find the right way at Manchester Airport

Manchester Airport was facing a growing challenge: an existing signage system was no longer meeting the needs of an increasing number of passengers.

The challenge was particularly significant around a one-way passenger system, where clear and intuitive wayfinding was essential to ensure passengers were directed towards the correct areas of the terminal.

Transport Signs was brought in to help develop a solution.

Manchester Airport Train Station – Wayfinding Signage Upgrade

How We Delivered

Our team of wayfinding planners started with an extensive programme of site surveys and discussions with airport operations staff. By understanding how passengers were using the space, and where the existing system was creating confusion, we were able to develop a completely new wayfinding and signage approach for the areas involved.

The project included:

🔹 A comprehensive wayfinding review
🔹 Extensive site surveys and CAD design
🔹 Bespoke signage products designed specifically for the environment
🔹 Incorporation of newly introduced signage standards
🔹 Careful consideration of passenger flow and the one-way system
🔹 Detailed health & safety planning
🔹 Compliance-led delivery
🔹 All installation works completed on nightshift, minimising disruption to airport operations and passengers

The result is a clearer, more intuitive wayfinding system designed around the needs of today’s passengers.

Another great example of how Transport Signs combines wayfinding expertise, design, bespoke manufacturing and specialist installation to solve complex signage challenges in live transport environments.
