Site:
Maidstone East
Location:
Kent
Train operator:
Southeastern
Main contractor:
Osborne
How we delivered:
Transport Signs completed the construction design, interface and engineering required for the steelwork to support the new main station signage. The new ‘Maidstone East’ sign projected above the roof of the station, so supporting steelwork that penetrated the roof needed to be designed. The steelwork for the main sign was designed to pick up one of the main RHS beams within the roof structure.
Once we had completed the installation of the first fix steelwork, the roofing contractor sealed around the steelwork to make the roof watertight, and the new letters and Network Rail logos were installed.
The scope also included a new sign on the side elevation of the building. The letters and logo were fabricated in descaled stainless steel and powder coated to the client’s specification.
Results:
The letters have substantial fixings into the steelwork to ensure the sign will be durable for many years to come. The interfaces between our steelwork, the steel structure of the new station and the roof were complex. Good coordination through design, fabrication and installation was required to ensure the signage steelwork fitted correctly, and could be delivered and installed to programme.
