London Euston Station – Wayfinding Signage Upgrade

Transport Signs was appointed to deliver a major programme of wayfinding and signage improvements across London Euston Station.

Over a three-month programme, our team designed, manufactured and installed more than 400 individual signs across 80 night shifts, covering all 16 platforms, station entrances, the concourse, routes to London Underground, toilet areas and key passenger circulation routes.

The project focused on implementing the new Network Rail graphical standard while creating a clearer, more consistent and passenger-focused wayfinding environment throughout the station.

A key priority for the Euston team was the removal of historic and redundant signage that had accumulated over many years. Reducing this visual clutter was central to the project, helping passengers identify the information they need more easily and making the overall passenger journey clearer and more intuitive.

How We Delivered

Working Within Engineering Hours

Delivering a project of this scale within a busy operational railway station presented significant logistical challenges.

All installation works were undertaken during overnight engineering hours, from 23:00 to 04:36 each night. With just five hours and 36 minutes available during each shift, detailed planning, coordination and efficient working were essential.

The programme had to be delivered progressively across different areas of the station, with installation opportunities determined by access and the wider engineering programme. This required the team to continually adapt and carefully coordinate each night’s activities to maximise the available working window, while ensuring the station was ready for passenger services each morning.

Bespoke Signage & Accessibility

The project incorporated a wide range of bespoke signage, all designed and manufactured by Transport Signs to meet the specific requirements of London Euston and the new Network Rail graphical standard.

New double-sided freestanding “Welcome to London Euston” signs were installed at the end of each of the 16 platforms, providing a consistent visual identity across the station.

Works also extended beyond the platforms to include station entrances, the concourse, routes connecting with London Underground and toilet areas.

Within the toilet facilities, tactile and Braille signage was installed to improve accessibility and provide clear information for passengers with visual impairments.

Working in a Live Railway Environment

The installation team liaised with Station Operational staff on a nightly basis, coordinating access, working areas and planned activities around the operational requirements of the station.

The team also worked alongside painters and decorators responsible for making good walls and other surfaces as existing signage was removed and new signage installed. This required close communication between the various teams to ensure work progressed efficiently and the finished areas were completed to a high standard.

Improving the Passenger Journey

The project was about more than simply replacing signage. A fundamental objective was to improve how passengers navigate and interact with the station.

Removing redundant and historic signage has helped reduce unnecessary visual information and create a cleaner, more coherent environment. The new signage provides clearer information at key decision points, helping passengers navigate between platforms, station entrances, the concourse, London Underground and other facilities with greater confidence.

A Complex Programme, Delivered Efficiently

The successful delivery of 400+ individual signs over 80 night shifts demonstrates Transport Signs’ ability to manage complex signage programmes within challenging live railway environments.

From detailed design and bespoke manufacture through to phased overnight installation, the project required careful planning, strong project management and close coordination with Station Operations and other contractors.

We’re proud to have supported the Euston team in creating a clearer, cleaner and more passenger-focused wayfinding environment at London Euston.
