Clacton Wheel Lathe – GBR Fascia Signage
Transport Signs was appointed to design, fabricate and install two new Great British Railways (GBR) fascia signs for Greater Anglia’s new Wheel Lathe facility at Clacton-on-Sea.
The project required careful design coordination to ensure the signage integrated seamlessly with the new warehouse building, while also satisfying the requirements of our Structural Engineers and the wider project team.

How We Delivered
Complex Installation Environment
Delivering a project of this scale within a busy operational railway station presented significant logistical challenges.
One of the fascia signs was positioned directly above a live railway line, requiring the installation to be carefully planned around a possession and line block.
Our PTS-qualified installation team carried out the works under the direction of a COSS, with the entire installation planned to be completed within the available possession window.
A GRP access tower was erected, the fascia sign installed and secured, and the tower dismantled and removed – all within the allocated possession.
The second fascia was install using a boom lift.
Quality Delivery in a Challenging Environment
The successful delivery of the project demonstrates Transport Signs’ ability to manage the complete signage process, from detailed design and structural coordination through to fabrication and specialist installation.
The new Wheel Lathe facility represents a significant investment in Greater Anglia’s engineering capability and will play an important role in the maintenance of its fleet for many years to come.
We’re proud to have played a part in the project and to see the new GBR branding taking pride of place on such an important piece of railway infrastructure.
From detailed design coordination to safe installation in a complex live railway environment, the project demonstrates our ability to deliver high-quality signage safely, efficiently and to the required programme.
