Stansted Airport Station – Revenue Protection & Wayfinding Upgrade
Stansted Airport introduced a new revenue protection scheme within the station concourse, requiring the installation of ticket gatelines and barriers to better manage arriving and departing passenger flows.
Alongside this operational upgrade, the airport undertook a refurbishment of the existing ticket office, incorporating extensive new branding and the launch of ‘Stan’, Stansted Express’s latest marketing campaign.
Our role was to design, fabricate, and install an integrated signage and structural solution that complemented the existing airport infrastructure, supported the new wayfinding strategy, and enhanced the overall passenger experience — while meeting the strict operational and safety requirements of a live airport environment.

How We Delivered
PRODUCT DESIGN & INTEGRATION
Comprehensive site surveys were carried out to ensure all new signage and structural elements integrated seamlessly with the existing station and airport infrastructure.
Working in collaboration with Walker Construction, the project’s main contractor, we produced detailed construction and integration drawings for a series of column-to-column mild steel cross braces spanning the concourse.
Structural calculations were completed and incorporated into the final designs to ensure full compliance and performance assurance.
Once fabricated, all steelwork was galvanised for durability before delivery to site. The cross braces were designed to support newly introduced suspended wayfinding signage positioned beneath each structure, forming a clear and consistent visual language across the concourse.
Fabrication
The scope of works included the following elements:
Ticket Office
- Extensive internal branding throughout the refurbished ticket office
- New fascia signage to enhance visibility and presence
- Introduction of Stan, the Stansted Express character, as part of the latest marketing campaign
Concourse
- Five bespoke mild steel cross-brace structures
- Hand-fabricated, double-sided suspended sign panels, fully welded and dressed
- Powder-coated finishes with applied decals and gloss lacquer for durability and visual impact
- A range of hand-fabricated, wall-mounted sign panels
- Wayfinding decals to support the new passenger flow strategy
All signage elements were fabricated to a high standard, ensuring both robustness and a premium finish suitable for a high-traffic transport environment.
Installation
Installation was completed over the course of one week during night shifts to minimise disruption to passengers and operations.
Our teams utilised scissor lifts and Genie lifts and worked strictly within airport permit systems and health & safety requirements, ensuring full compliance throughout the programme.
Outcome
With the scheme fully implemented, passengers can now navigate the station concourse with ease, supported by clear, consistent wayfinding and branding.
At the same time, Stansted Airport benefits from a secure revenue protection system that integrates seamlessly into the environment—delivering both operational efficiency and an improved customer experience.
