How we delivered:

Transport Signs were approached by GTR to assist with researching the history of the signage at the station and designing new heritage signage. Our research team spent considerable time working with GTR on the look and feel of the signage. We set out to define what fonts and colour the original architect would have used had the proposed Southern Railway signage (pictured) been installed when the station was opened in 1938, then to apply for planning permission to install these signs.

We completed high level surveys to ensure that the size and scale of the letters were all correctly reflected on the renders which we prepared to be included within the planning application. Once planning permission has been granted, we fabricated the 3D descaled stainless steel letters.

Results:

Our install team completed the high level installation of both sets of letters to the station façade over the course of two installation shifts. We’re delighted with the outcome and our contribution to bringing the station building back to life once more.

Thanks to Paul Childs at the Railway Heritage Trust for providing the photo of the renovated station. All historic station research was undertaken by GTR and Transport Signs.
